Chandigarh MC to build winter shelter homes

CHANDIGARH: The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has started the procedure of building the winter night shelters. The cost of waterproof shelter will cost around Rs1.18 crore in different parts of the cities. It is set up every year for winter season for destitute and migrant workers. The previous year MC had set up these in December, which was criticised for being late as the temperature had already fallen sharply by that time.

This year for building the shelters, the MC has already presented a tender to invite firms to build the shelters near Sector 22 market, Inter State Bus Terminals in sectors 17 and 43, and hospitals like Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Government Medical College and Hospital – 32 and Government Multi Speciality Hospital – Sector 32.
