CHANDIGARH: Ahead of the municipal corporation polls, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is set to start public consultations and grievance redressal at the doorstep of citizens. The initiative is named‘ Corporation Aapke Dwar’. This drive will begin from Sector 45 on October 19, Tuesday. Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC), informed while speaking to The Indian Express that, “Office-bearers, including me, the mayor and area councilor will be there at the house meeting, which will be conducted by the civic body. The residents and members of Resident Welfare Associations will be able to present their problems and grievances.” She further added that there will be a separate counter for individual complaints. These suggestions from the people concerned will be incorporated in successive plans and budgets so that future works can take place according to people’s demands.
This initiative has been planned after considering the plea from The Federation of Sector Welfare Associations Chandigarh (FOSWAC), which is unhappy with the waste management policy and its functioning. FOSWAC demanded the civic body to either scrap or modify these policies so as to make them workable. They further added that CMC has failed to address garbage management issues in the city and this needs immediate attention.
