Centre sanctions higher power distribution from NTPC plants to Telangana and Jharkhand

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet sanctions a proposal by the Ministry of Power for higher allocation of electricity to Telangana and Jharkhand from the under-construction projects of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) on February 6.

85 per cent power will be allocated to Telangana which will be generated from Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (TSTPP) with 4000 MW of NTPC and 85 per cent power will be allocated to Jharkhand from the expansion project of Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS) with 4000 MW of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL). PVUNL is a subsidiary company of NTPC. 

Projects will be established in two phases. Phase-I of both the projects are under construction. TSTPP will comprise two units of 800 MW each and second phase for three units of 800 MW each and PTPS will comprise three units of 800 MW each in the first phase and two units 800 MW each in the second phase.  TSTPP will be set up at Ramagundam in Peddapalli district while the PSTP station of Jharkhand will come at Patratu in Ramgarh district.

Higher allocation of power to Telangana from TSTPP will ensure that the Central government has taken the necessary measures as enumerated in the 13th Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, as per an official release.
