CCP urged shopkeepers to buy reusable plastic baskets

PANAJI: Panaji citizens were greeted with single-use plastic alternative – a plastic basket, in a drive led by Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).The citizens were requested to use plastic basket instead of using single-use plastic bags in order to reduce the massive output of plastic use.

Vithal Chopdekar, mayor, CCP said that these plastic baskets can be washed and reused.

Mayor, some councilor and CCP officials askedsome ofthe shopkeepers to buy these plastic baskets that were imported from a neighboring state. Chpdekar said that the drive receiveda good response andmore than 200 baskets in two sizes costing Rs 100 and Rs 80 per piece were sold.

Ajit Roy, commissioner of CCP said that It was an encouragement for us to see that the citizens has begun to cooperate with the authorities.CCP will facilitate the setting up of a stall near the fish market for the sale of plastic baskets.
