NEW DELHI: Amid a surge in the COVID-19 infections, the uptake of booster shots of COVID-19 vaccines has remained subdued in India. Since its rollout on January 10, the precautionary doses have been administered to over 55 lakh health and frontline workers and the elderly above 60 years of age. According to officials, high infection rate among the frontline workers might have deterred people from seeking the third dose of vaccine.
Vaccinations among adolescents on the other hand continues to progress well in the nation. In just about 16 days, over 50% of those between 15-17 years of age have been covered with the first dose. The option of availing vaccination at schools has helped the youngsters and the process.
