Boats to rid Mansar lake of plastic waste

JAMMU: Udhampur district administration has commissioned a small fleet of boats tasked to collect all plastic waste and polythene wrappers from the surface of Mansar lake of Jammu. The campaign was launched by Piyush Singla, Udhampur Deputy Commissioner in the presence of Nagendra Singh Jamwal, CEO of Surinsar Mansar Development Authority (SMDA) on the “Paryatan Parv – 2019” with the central theme of “150 years of celebrating the Mahatma” and World Wild Life Week celebrations.

The highlight of the event was that no plastic was used during the whole exercise. The plastic banners were replaced by wooden hoardings provided by the State Pollution Control Board. On the occasion, the Wildlife Department also introduced dustbins made up of bamboo.
