MUMBAI: As schools are expected to recommence soon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to purchase 75 lakh masks for students of civic schools that are closed until Friday, January 15, as a precautionary measure following COVID-19 guidelines.
According to the BMC proposal, each student is to get 25 masks and each can be reused and washed 30 times. The civic body will put an order for 75 lakh reusable masks for the next two years. The BMC will expend about Rs 20 crore on the purchase. An official from the central purchase department said that the process of appointing an agency for the purchase of these masks has begun. If everything goes as planned, they will have the stock in the next couple of months. They are making preparations as it has been said face masks will remain in use even after getting the vaccination dose.
