MUMBAI, Maharashtra: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to conduct a drive to fix all the potholes in Mumbai city ahead of the Ganesh festival. In line with this goal, civic engineers have been directed on Thursday, August 22, to fill all potholes, and additional officers have been told to deploy to keep strict vigilance. The city receives a large influx of people and vehicles during processions of Ganesh idols.
Abhijit Banger, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects), held a meeting with the engineers from the Department of Civic Roads, where they were told to fix all potholes before the Ganeshotsav which will begin on September 7. Banger has told the officials to stick to the mastic asphalt method to fix the potholes.
As per the data, the civic body recorded nearly 16,162 potholes in the city between June 2 and August 14. Of this, the municipal body has fixed 16,005 potholes. About 42 per cent of these potholes are on the two state highways in Mumbai. 3400 potholes were reported on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and 3,386 on the Western Express Highway (WEH).
To resolve the complaints of potholes in all 227 municipal wards, BMC has assigned a sub-engineer to supervise the task of filling potholes by the contractors. For the monsoon, BMC appointed 18 contractors to resolve the problem of potholes in all 24 municipal wards during the monsoon season.
Banger also told the assistant engineers, executive, and deputy chief engineers to keep a close vigil on the pothole-prone roads to ensure that all roads are in optimum condition ahead of the Ganesh festival.
