MUMBAI, Maharashtra: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has published a list of 188 “dilapidated” and “very dangerous” buildings ahead of monsoon season. The corporation has requested the residents to leave these buildings and move to safe places.
About 114 buildings, out of 188 on the list, are in the western suburbs. Seconds came the eastern suburbs with 47 dangerous buildings, reported the PTI. The civic officials have asked the relevant authorities to take necessary actions before the onset of monsoon, along with requesting the people residing in the building to shift to safer locations.
The corporation has directed the occupants and private building owners that have been in operation for more than 30 years to conduct a structural audit of their buildings and submit the structural stability certificate to the civic body within 30 days. The directives have been issued under section 353B of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888.
The civic body has also warned that it will take legal action against owners, occupiers and cooperative organisations who do not comply with its order.
