AHMEDABAD: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) and also bagged two other municipalities on Tuesday, October 5. On the other hand, Congress won the Bhanvad municipality in Devbhumi-Dwarka district.
Since the beginning of counting of votes, the BJP maintained its lead in GMC and ultimately defeated its counterparts Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The GMC polls were being seen as a litmus test for the ruling party after their abrupt decision to change the Chief Minister in the state, along with the entire cabinet.
As per the final tally released by the State Election Commission, out of the total 44 seats in the GMC, BJP has won 41 seats, Congress bagged two seats and AAP got one seat.
