PANAJI, Goa: Damodar Shirodkar, elected as the Chairperson of the municipal council of Margao town of South Goa. A few weeks back Damodar Shirodkar lost the election due to the incident of cross voting, to his opponent Ganashyam Shirodkar. However, Ganashyam Shirodkar resigned from his post once the no-confidence motion was passed against him.

Before the elections, Goa Municipalities Act was amended through an ordinance. After the amendment voting for the post of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson will take place by ‘show of hands’ rather than the secret ballot.

Earlier, on Sunday, October 9, eight councillors of Margao Municipal Council (MMC), seen from the Kamat faction and one from the Goa Forward Party joined the BJP.
