NEW DELHI: The Delhi government launched bike ambulance services on February 7, 2019 to ensure timely health assistance in traffic-congested areas.

These bikes will be known as First Responder Vehicles. These bikes will have a portable oxygen cylinder, first aid kit and dressing material, air-splints, GPS and communication device etc.

Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi and Satyendar Jain, Health Minister of Delhi, launched the fleet of 16 bikes at Delhi Secretariat. The initiative is expected to reduce the ambulance response time in congested areas and J J clusters in East Delhi (East, North-East and Shahdara).

The project was completed at a cost of Rs 23 lakh out of the total amount approved by the cabinet which is Rs 40 lakh.

CM said, “Only big vehicles were available for ambulance services till now. These bike ambulances will be able to reach narrow lanes to provide immediate medical care to the people residing there.”  The number of bikes will increase in future, he added.
