BENGALURU: Students of colleges affiliated to Bengaluru University will be educated about air and water pollution from the 2019-20 academic year, taking into consideration of the challenges posed by climate change.
They will also have additional subjects related to solid waste management, environment protection, resource management, civic management and disaster management among others.
Speaking at a press conference on June 3, after conducting a day-long meeting with the principals of the affiliated colleges, K R Venugopa, Vice Chancellor of BU, said all the colleges will have to give importance to value-based education, yoga and meditation classes.
The colleges will have to establish four study cells on Buddha, B R Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda, to ensure that students get “holistic” education. “If we find that these cells are not established or classes on these topics are not conducted, the Local Inquiry Committees who look at renewing the recognition of the colleges will ensure that they do not give a favorable report in this regard,” Venugopa added.
