BENGALURU: The traffic police in Bengaluru have formed 44 special teams across the city to smoothen traffic movement during any rain-related eventuality.
P Harishekaran, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), at a meeting on May 29 said that special teams were formed at each police station level. The teams will be provided with various equipment such as motorised saw, ropes, choppers, buckets, and heavy-duty torchlights to clear roads blocked by fallen trees and attend to flooding in their area of operation.
The traffic police teams have been asked to form WhatsApp groups with officials of civic bodies, including Bruhat Benagluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bescom, and Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB), and the Forest Department and also officials of the state disaster management cell for better management of the situation. 12 places prone to flooding have been identified, including Silk Board junction, Nagawara Road, Mysuru Road, and parts of the CBD.
The teams have also been asked to purchase motors to pump out water to ease the traffic situation, said Harishekaran.
