KOLKATA, West Bengal: The Government of West Bengal has sanctioned ₹2.9 crore to the Department of Urban Development for the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) to replace high-pressure sodium vapour lights to LED and repair or replace all faulty cable lines between Kamalgazi flyover end and Padmapukur More on Southern Bypass towards Baruipur.
Officials reported, “The plan is to convert to LED lights of equivalent power, replacing the sodium vapour lights. This will be environment friendly and save electricity costs.” The agency roped in for this will also monitor the project for a year.
Under the Green City Mission Scheme, the state government is funding the urban local bodies to install LED lights in their area of jurisdiction. In line with this goal many civic bodies in the state including Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC), and New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA), have already begun to replace street lights with LEDs.
