HYDERABAD:  KT Rama Rao, Minister of Information Technology and Industries, Government of Telangana, said on Friday, August 28, that the government will now set up a few more Basthi Dawakhanas and increase their total number to 300 to fulfil the medical needs of the citizens in Hyderabad. At present, 197 Basthi Dawakhanas are providing medical services in the state. As Basthi Dawakhanas received good response from the people, the demand for more such health care centres is increasing.  Hence, the state government has asked the officials to develop 100 more dawakhanas and make them operational in two months.

Inaugurated on April 6, 2018, Basthi Dawakhana or Basthi Clinic is the Telangana government’s novel initiative aiming to provide healthcare to everyone in urban areas. This initiative was inspired by the Delhi government’s Mohalla Clinic, with the exception that the services are free of cost.
