NEW DELHI: Post a recent audit of security measures at India Gate by the Delhi Police, the police planned to install baggage scanners to enhance vigil at the memorial. Madhur Verma, DCP Delhi Police, confirmed the same. In his issued statement, “Move is being taken to make the memorial more tourist-friendly and to ensure no undesirable elements and miscreants are present in and around the India Gate.”
The police are also planning to experiment with restricting and opening certain routes for visitors at the India Gate. The police said that signage will also be installed for better clarity for people to understand the new routes.
“For people to be able to spend hassle-free time, vendors have also been removed from the circle around India Gate. Only those vendors who have permission from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will be allowed to setup shops from Man Singh Road to C-Hexagon,” said Shobhit Saksena, Additional DCP, adding that police barricades around India Gate are being coloured brown from yellow to match the surroundings.
