Avail free Wi-Fi service at 36 new stations under Tiruchi Railway Division

TIRUCHI: 36 new stations under Tiruchi Railway division are going to offer free Wi-Fi to its customers. The stations where citizens can use free Wi-Fi services are Ariyalur, Kuttalam, Mannargudi, Nagapattinam, Nagore, Puducherry, Pattukottai, Tiruverumbur, Ulundurpet, Velankanni, Vriddhachalam Junction and Vaitheeswaran Koil.

A senior official said that Tiruchi division offer free Wi-Fi services at over 50 stations already and currently 36 stations are identified for putting new facility in place.

The officials said that the RailTel Corporation, a public sector undertaking owning a Pan-India optic fibre network along railway tracks, is the executing agency of the project which is being carried out through Tata Trusts which is on the task of establishing the necessary technical infrastructure at the chosen stations.

The Wi-Fi facility would give passengers access to free internet while they wait for their train to arrive at the platform for limited period of time, after the time limit gets over the user will be charged according to the usage.

Recently, in Ministry of Railways action was proposed to provide free Wi-Fi service at various railway stations across the country within 100 days. As per railway officials, at present there exists 1,603 stations across the country where   passengers can avail free Wi-Fi facility and railways plan to provide free Wi-Fi service to over 4,800 stations via private and government services.
