Assistive Devices worth Rs 1 crore distributed in Manipur

IMPHAL, Manipur: ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’, a distribution camp, was organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Government of Manipur, in Bishnupur District, Manipur, to provide aid and assistive devices worth over Rs 1 crore to the elderly and physically challenged citizen.

The DEPwD joined hand with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO), Social Welfare Department of Manipur and Bishnupur District Administration to organise this distribution camp. The camp is being organised under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) scheme, and ‘Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana’ (RVY Scheme) of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

The camp was inaugurated by Pratima Bhoumik, Minister of State (MoS) for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India as Chief Guest. Govindas Konthoujam, Minister of Public Works Department, Government of Manipur; Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Mnaipur; Heikham Dingo Singh, Minister of Education, Law and Legislative Affairs, Government of India and other officials from the state were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the event, Bhoumik said that the Government of India is committed to the empowerment of Divyangjans in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of  ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas’. Apart from that, she also highlighted that the skill training has been provided to 1180 divyangjans for which Rs 70,56,000 were sanctioned. The state is also working to expedite the process of issuing Unique Display ID (UDID) cards across the state, which will help the divyang citizens to avail the benefits of government schemes.
