VIJAYAWADA: After observing the alarming effects of vehicular pollution further deteriorating the air quality in the country, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), an agency under the Union Ministry of Power, has asked all the state governments to build an infrastructure for electric vehicles in their respective state which are going to be promoted on large scale in next 5-10 years. In repose to the suggestions and orders directed by BEE the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) has planned to increase the number of charging station in the state, for which suitable locations are being identified.
As per the statement released by APSECM on December 1, it has requested the energy agency to highlight the standards and guidelines for faster adoption of EV infra and to provide funds in-aid for setting up the pilot project.
According to the APSECM, 80 EV charging stations are already built across the state in various cities by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL). These charging points can be found at the secretariat and various government buildings to charge electric vehicles used by the officials of respective departments.
Abhay Bhakre, Director General, BEE released a statement mentioned that according to the latest guidelines, any individual or entity can set up public charging infrastructure as per the norms, and stated that setting up of public charging stations is now a de-licensed activity as per the decision taken up by Union Ministry of Power.
“The government will permit any individual or entity to set up charging stations. Any charging station can obtain electricity from any generation company through open access. Private charging at residences and offices will be permitted and distribution companies (Discoms) should give priority to provide connectivity for charging stations,” he said.
To promote the use of electric vehicles and to address the issue of air pollution caused by vehicles using conventional fuels, BEE has decided to launch campaign called ‘Go Electric’.
