Andhra Pradesh is role model for all in energy conservation: Singh

VIJAYAWADA: RK Singh, Minister of Power, Government of India, has appreciated Andhra Pradesh for its efforts to promote energy efficiency and conservation in the state. Singh, while addressing a national-level review meeting, added that as per United Nations Climate Change Conference, India has aimed to achieve 40 per cent of the cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuels.

Singh also said that there is a need to introduce a national carbon market for the promotion of clean energy practices in order to de-carbonise the economy and mobilising international finance for greenhouse gas mitigation. Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, also appreciated the efforts of Andhra Pradesh and said that the state is setting an example by setting up dedicated state designated agency (SDA). He added that out of 36 SDAs, only Andhra Pradesh and Kerala have come up with stand alone SDAs.

Srikant Nagulapalli, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said that the state government has also notified the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), which mandated energy conservation methods for all commercial and non-residential buildings.
