Andhra government to link streams with major rivers to curb water problems

GUNTUR: N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh said that the state government is taking possible measures to save water in rivers to eradicate drought completely.

The state government launched the gigantic river linkage project to provide drinking and irrigation water. CM laid the foundation stone of Vaikuntapuram barrage near Amaravati mandal on February 13, 2019. The project involves a cost of Rs 2,129 crore. The barrage has the storage capacity of 10 tmc. It is designed to meet the drinking water needs of the upcoming capital city Amaravati.

CM, while addressing a public meeting said that the banks of Krishna river would be developed as a global tourism destination as sufficient water would be available in the stream.  Amravati, located on the river bank would flourish as one of the five best capital cities of the world. The government would soon complete the linkage of small and minor rivers and streams along with Godavari-Krishna-Penna, he added. The government is determined to complete Polavaram project by December, 2019.

CM said that the eradication of drought will help in creating wealth, which will again help to eradicate poverty.
