NEW DELHI: R K Singh, Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, released the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2021-22 during the review, planning and monitoring meeting of the states and state utilities in the national capital New Delhi.
State Energy Efficiency Index has been developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, in collaboration with the Alliance for Energy-Efficient Economy (AEEE), to track the progress of states and union territories (UT) in the energy efficiency in fiscal year 2020-21 and 2021-22.
The new version of SEEI 2021-2022 has updated its framework of 50 indicators in line with the national priorities. Programme-specific indicators have also been included in 2021-22 edition of the index to track the outcomes and impact of the state-level energy efficiency initiatives.
In the latest edition of the index, five states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan and Telangana, have been declared as front runners meaning they have an overall point tally of above 60. Four states, Assam, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Punjab, are in the Achiever category (50-60 points).
Similarly, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Chandigarh have emerged as top performers in their respective state groups, and the state of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh showed the most improvement since the last edition of the index.
Following the launch of the index, R K Singh said, “As we transition to a low-carbon economy, it is crucial to ensure sustainable development with Energy Transition that ensures no one is left behind. Periodic tracking of states’ energy efficiency progress and outcomes is essential to contribute effectively to the nation’s climate commitments.”
