AMARAVATI, Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) won the National Energy Conservation Award in the State Designated Agency (SDA) sector.
President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award – 2022 to APSECM on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day on Wednesday, December 14, at an award ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has categorised the states into four groups based on their energy consumption. Andhra Pradesh has been classified in Group II based on its total final energy consumption (TFEC) which is in the range of 5 to 15 million tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe).
Andhra Pradesh (AP) has emerged best performer in Group II and is the second-best performer across the groups. The state has received 77.5 points in the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) – 2022. The performance and score of the state have improved by 53 per cent as compared to SEEI 2020, in which AP scored 50.5 points. The introduction of the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and an amendment to the bylaws in 123 urban local bodies (ULBs) and Eco-Niwas Samhita (ENS) training in the building sector is being termed the main reason behind the improvement of the state.
With the help of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Government of India the state implemented energy efficiency measures in approximately 541 court buildings by shifting to energy-efficient appliances from conventional ones. Apart from that, the state also conducted energy audits and prepared detailed project reports in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) clusters suggesting measures to improve energy efficiency. The state has also inducted 296 electric vehicles in various departments of the government and 100 other EVs in AP State Road Transport Corporation and has converted autos to electric autos with swappable batteries.
A dedicated budget has been allocated for energy efficiency activities in various sectors. AP improved its performance in industrial energy efficiency by saving energy of 0.818 Million tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe) in 50 large industries.
