AMRUT 2.0 targets to provide 2.68 crore tap connections: MoHUA

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) released the targets under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) which was launched on October 1, 2021, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to MoHUA, AMRUT 2.0 aims to increase the universal coverage of water supply from the earlier target of 500 cities to 4,800 statutory towns.

The press release from MoHUA stated that AMRUT 2.0 will also aim to install a total of 2.68 crore tap water connections and 2.64 crore sewage connections in the country. AMRUT was launched in 2015 in 500 cities with an objective to improve the sewerage and septage management coverage and providing safe drinking water across the country. Sewerage management and recycle of treated used water in cities with less than 1 lakh population will be covered under the ambit of Swachh Bharat Mission – 2.0.
