BHUBANESWAR, Odisha: The Government of Odisha has joined hands with Apparel Made-ups and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), for the skill development of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and to promote entrepreneurship among women.
The Department of Mission Shakti, Government of Odisha, signed the pact with AMHSSC on June 17, to provide training to 10,000 Mission Shakti SHG members on apparel making. It will enhance the availability of skilled manpower in the textiles sector, which will also provide employment opportunities for women. The initiative will facilitate entrepreneurship and the creation of micro-enterprises and it will run over a period of 18 months.
Nearly 1500 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) are involved by the Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti Department, in stitching and supplying uniforms to the schools and other academic institutions under the livelihood convergence model of Mission Shakti.
This initiative will provide a higher level of tailoring skills along with basic dress designing, which will provide self-employment opportunities for women in the state. The move will also help the SHGs and Producer groups (PGs) in achieving year-round engagement to make them viable in the long run. Roopak Vasishtha, CEO and Director General of AMHSSC said, “AMHSSC will also facilitate strategic and feasible industry partnership with the apparel sector as part of this collaboration”.
On the successful completion of training, AMHSSC will provide hand-holding support to the SHGs in establishing their own tailoring unit and other relevant support.
