Amdavadis need to show parking space or pay hefty fines

AHEMDABAD: After facing high challans due to newly imposed Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019, Amdavadis will now have to face parking woes. In coming days, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is all set to declare new comprehensive parking policy under the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP). Under the new rules, people will have to produce authentic proof of parking space in their vicinity before registering their cars with road transport authorities.

Buying permits for on-street parking in residential areas will attract incremental charges on premium commercial roads. Bicycle owners can park their bicycles within few hundred meters of bus stands without paying any charges.

A senior AMC official said, “We are waiting for Amdavadis to get acquainted with new traffic fines and to get used to adhering to traffic rules before we declare the comprehensive parking policy.” The official told that they will first begin with commercial and designated work areas before moving to the residential zones. People are already facing trouble due to newly introduced traffic fines, a parking restriction will add new numbers to it, an official said.

The key focus of the NUTP is to gradually discourage parking on all arterial roads including at short-stay parking facilities such as entertainment and tourist areas. In time, visitors will be discouraged from parking in residential zones.
