AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to manage Climate Change for environment conservation. The Rs 7,000 crore MoU was signed on January 29, for the period of five years from 2019 to 2024. The MoU was signed in the presence of Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bijal Patel, Mayor of Ahmedabad and senior government officials.
According to a Senior official of AMC, IFC will also help AMC with its technical support to implement the project for e-mobility, green buildings, renewable energy transport, waste water management and waste to energy.
“The deal would provide a systematic and more effective system to corporation to deal with climate change challenges and other pollution problems over the longer run period,” he said. Such decisions would also be helpful to make a better Ahmadabad in field of Development, he added.
As a part of MoU the cooperation with the IFC will help in finding a solution for the Pirana dumpsite, which has become the major source of water and air pollution. Regeneration of the Sabarmati and pollution in water bodies would be the other issues the cooperation would help to deal with.
Last week AMC released its 2019 budget to solve the problems related to air quality, pollution, with the implementation of 1,000 electric buses and 30,000 e-rickshaws in Ahmedabad city.
