AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to increase property tax to introduce user charges for garbage collection. The additional charge will be considered as tax for sanitation. AMC will charge Rs one per day for residential units and Rs two per day for commercial units. The tax department will levy the charges from October 1, 2018.
It is expected to earn Rs 116 crore through additional charges from more than 16 lakh residential units and around 8 lakh commercial units.
The executive wing will submit the detailed proposal to the standing committee. The Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2016, which states that the civic body is responsible for door-to-door collection, transportation and disposal of waste, allows the AMC to levy user charges for sanitation service.
For the evaluation, copy of challan/receipt issued to waste generators for collection of user charges and copy of notification of user charges will be reviewed.
