Active cases of COVID in India crossed 10-lakh mark

NEW DELHI: According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), for the first time, the active cases of COVID-19 in India crossed the 10-lakh mark on Thursday, September 17. A highest single day spike of 97,894 COVID-19 infections was recorded which pushed the country’s tally to over 51 lakh while the recoveries surged to 40,25,079 taking the recovery rate up to 78.64 per cent. Of the total caseload, the active cases in the country are 10,09,976.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India have reached to 51,18,253, while 83,198 people have succumbed due to the deadly virus which has taken the lives of 1,132 in the last 24 hours. The COVID-19 case fatality rate (CFR) in the country was noted to be 1.63 percent.

On August 7, the total COVID-19 caseload in the country went past the 20-lakh mark, 30-lakh on August 23, 40-lakh on September 5 and on September 16, it crossed the 50-lakh mark.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, and it went past 50-lakh on September 16. The states which continue to remain worst affected by the deadly virus include Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. Of the total active COVID-19 cases in India, 49 per cent are recorded from Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh and these three states contribute 52 per cent of the total deaths as well.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India has conducted testing of in total 6,05,65,728 samples till date with 11,36,613 samples being tested on Wednesday, September 16.
