MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) along with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced to install 100 additional Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) in Mumbai. Currently, there are 60 AWS in the city.
The AWS provides information regarding rainfall, wind speed, wind direction, humidity and temperature. After installation work is complete, there will be an AWS installed at every three square km unlike to the present eight square km.
The additional AWS will help in fetching location-specific weather information, which will help the civic body to be well prepared for instances like heavy rainfall.
According to the IMD, Mumbai has one of the largest weather monitoring networks in the country. The IMD has its weather stations at Colaba and Santacruz.
