Shimla to get 24*7 water supply

SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh government in an attempt to end the water crisis in Shimla decided to augment the Shimla lift water supply scheme at Chaba in Suni area, under which the town would be provided 10 MLD (millions litre per day) additional water every day.

Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh laid the foundation stone of the augmentation work that is expected to complete by next year. He claimed that it would ensure 24*7 water supply to the town.

CM said that the state government would spend Rs 275 crore on drinking water schemes during the current fiscal year. He added that about 90 per cent households in the state were getting potable water against the national average for only 43.5 per cent.

He further said that the state government proposed a Rs 4,751 crore water harvesting project to the Union government. He added that this project would help in doubling the farm income by 2022.
