NEW DELHI: Bhure Lal, EPCA chairperson on November 22 said that over 500 metric tonnes of municipal and industrial waste is now being collected daily from industrial sites of Narela, Bawana and Tikri which would earlier have been burnt. Positive change is being noticed in air quality in these locations, he pointed out.
The Supreme Court-appointed Environmental Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) had last month visited both Narela and Bawana after receiving multiple complaints of open waste burning. It had recorded hundreds of violations, following which a meeting was called and marshals were appointed for night patrolling. Lal said, the move is ensuring that no waste is being burnt and if any violation is noticed, challans are being issued on the spot.
