China will build 300 forest cities by 2025 to improve environmental condition of urban areas. The forest authority of China has said China’s future urban construction planning includes adding more greenery to the cities, with 300 state level forest cities to be built as a part of countries ecosystem by 2025.
In recent year China has also promoted the development of forest cities to improve the environmental condition of urban areas, and the development of forest cities are expected to help reduce average air temperature, improve local biodiversity, improve air quality and generation of new wildlife etc.
Under the plan, areas including cities along the Yangtze River, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei province cluster and border regions connecting countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative will be top priorities.
Since 2004 more than 200 cities in 18 provinces and municipalities have been involved in the forest city development plan and a total of 138 cities have attained State Level forest city status.
