DISPUR, Assam: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Government of India, has approved
₹5,729 crore for the Guwahati Ring Road Project. This significant infrastructure project aims to enhance connectivity in Assam.
The project spans 121 kilometers and will be developed using the Build-Operate-Toll (BOT) model. It comprises three key elements aimed at improving connectivity and alleviating traffic congestion.
The plan involves building a new 56-kilometer, four-lane Access-controlled Northern Guwahati Bypass. Furthermore, the current four-lane bypass on National Highway 27 (NH 27) will be expanded to six lanes along an eight-kilometer section, and improvements will be carried out on the remaining 58 kilometers of the existing NH 27 bypass. Another key highlight of the project- a major bridge over the river Brahmaputra, will further bolster regional connectivity.
Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari, Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, and announced the cabinet’s approval on his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) for their support. “Excellent news. As the Union Cabinet approves the ₹5,729 cr Guwahati Ring Road Project. Assam places on record its deepest appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari for this transformative effort,” the CM stated.
