LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: The Department of Urban Development has introduced the ‘Upvan’ scheme to increase greener spaces in Uttar Pradesh. With this scheme, the department aims to make the state climate resilient.
Along with creating green spaces in the state, the scheme will also lead to the creation of public parks. For this, the state government has allocated an annual budget of ₹70 crore. This budget will be passed on to the urban local bodies based on their needs and capacities.
The municipal corporations will be given funds in the range of ₹1.5 to ₹5 crore based on the project size and the requirement for creating the green cover. On the other hand, municipalities will be given funds in the range of ₹50 lakh to ₹1.5 crore, and nagar panchayats will be given ₹50 lakh to implement the scheme.
To monitor the progress, a committee will be established at the local body level. In the corporation, Municipal Commissioners will head this committee, and at the municipality and nagar panchayat levels, the District Magistrate will be the head.
