GUWAHATI, Assam: The Government of Assam has approved the proposal to amend the Assam Municipal Act, 1956, to ensure better urban management in the state.
The new bill outlines the roles and responsibilities of all three municipal cadres in Assam—Urban Administrative Service, Engineering Service and Urban Financial Service.
The new amendment will include guidelines for appointing municipal staff through an approved staffing pattern of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). New rules will also framed regarding the condition of service of municipal officers.
Streamlining the powers and functions of the Executive Officer (Urban Administrative Services) is another key aspect of the amendment bill.
