Slum dwellers get land rights under Jaga Mission in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR, Odisha: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik distributed land rights certificates to 65,000 families in 875 slums under the municipal corporations of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, and Sambalpur as part of the first phase of Jaga Mission. While attending the event, Patnaik mentioned that the state government is planning to provide financial assistance for the construction of houses which is the second phase of the mission. Patnaik added that land rights have been distributed among people living in slums since the launch of the mission in 2018. Around 2.4 lakh families have been given land rights and have been provided financial assistance to 40,000 families for the construction of their houses under the scheme. Stating that the Jaga Mission has created a new identity for poor people of urban areas, Patnaik said that this work of the state government has drawn the attention of the entire world. “The mission has started a new age in the transformation of urban centers of the state,” he said and praised the Tata Steel Foundation for its important role in this endeavor. He also felicitated the Jaga Mission team for getting the UN-World Habitat Award-2023.
