DISPUR, Assam: The state cabinet of Assam has green-signalled the amendment to the Assam Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules during a meeting held on Wednesday, July 5.
The new amendment will allow the Alumni Association to nominate two members and while the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) or Urban Local Bodies (ULB) will nominate one member to the School Management Committee (SMC).
The move is aimed at empowering the local bodies and former students by giving them a voice in the management of primary schools across the Northeastern state. Education Minister of Assam took the matter to Twitter, where he posted, “Cabinet approved amendment to Assam Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules to authorise the Alumni Association to nominate 2 members to the SMC.
