AMARAVATI, Andhra Pradesh: KS Jawahar Reddy, Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, on Monday, July 3, directed the civic body officials in the state to take measures for the effective management of liquid, solid and industrial waste. Reddy also asked to issue notices to firms that fail to manage waste.
The directives of the Chief Secretary came during a meeting with officials of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) and Swachh Andhra Corporation, held at his camp office.
Reddy also emphasised garbage treatment with the help of the waste-to-energy plants and directed the officials to set up waste treatment plants, particularly in the industrial estates.
Similarly, Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, YSRC MP and State-level Task Force Chief, said all measures regarding solid and liquid waste management should be in tandem with the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) guidelines. He also stressed increasing the capacity of the solid waste management plants being built in Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram. He also said that waste generated in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), in a radius of 70 to 80 km, should be brought to these plants. B Rajasekhar, Special Chief Secretary (Panchayat Raj and Rural Development), B Sridhar, Member Secretary, APPCB, along with other officials were present in the meeting.
