GURUGRAM, Haryana: Dr Kamal Gupta, Minister for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Government of Haryana, inaugurated the construction work of the largest waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in the country in Gurugram on Friday.
Gupta said that the plant would be a milestone in proper disposal of the generated waste, thus helping both Gurugram and Faridabad districts in the state. He said, “The WTE will start working within two years. The machinery to be installed in the plant has been imported from Germany and this plant will be based on state-of-the-art technology. It will have two boilers of 750 TPD [tonnes per day] capacity each, a turbogenerator of 25 MW [Megawatt] capacity and a control room.”
EcoGreen Energy will build the 25 MW capacity waste-to-energy plant on 10 acres of land in Bandhwadi, situated on the Gurugram-Faridabad road. The company was assigned the task to build a waste management plant at Bandhwadi back in August 2017, but due to some reason, the construction work could not begin.
Cumulatively both districts generate 2,100 metric tonnes of waste in a day, and the company collects the waste from every household and transports it to Bandhwadi landfill sites. The upcoming waste-to-energy plant will adhere to the prescribed guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board and the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016. Initially, a retaining wall will be erected to prevent old waste from slipping and causing any hindrances in the construction of plant.
