NEW DELHI: Thirteen states and three Union Territories have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme to upgrade their schools.
An official from the Ministry of Education stated that most of the states are willing to sign MoU with the Education Ministry and that they are receiving good responses from the states and Union Territories for PM SHRI Schools. He further stated that MoU for PM SHRI Schools has been received by Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Punjab, along with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan (NVS).
The PM SHRI Schools will cover 14,500 existing schools which will be redeveloped to reflect the key features of the new National Education policy (NEP) 2020 and will deliver quality teaching for cognitive development of the students.
It will be implemented as a centrally sponsored scheme with a total project cost of Rs 27,360 crore. This will include a central share of Rs 18,128 crore for the period of five academic sessions, starting from 2022-23 to 2026-27.
