New Delhi MC to adorn 375 places with exotic flowers

NEW DELHI: The newly merged New Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) is planning to beautify 375 public spaces spread across12 zones in the national capital with exotic flowers. With this move, the civic body is eyeing the upcoming G-20 summit.

This beautification exercise will be carried out on the dividers, sidewalks of roads, land pockets under the flyovers, vertical greens and recreational public spaces like parks etc. The civic body is planning to plant visually pleasing exotic species.

The decision came after the directives from the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena, asked the local body to optimally utilise the green spaces.

The areas where the beautification activities will be carried out include 16 flyovers, 261 colony parks, 27 parks near markets, 62 parks near main roads and nine around other areas of the city.

As per the official statement, “Main places where beautification will be carried out include Nehru Place flyover, Sarai Kale Khan flyover, Lajpat Nagar flyover, South Ext. flyover, Kalkaji flyover, Seelampur flyover, Gokulpuri flyover, Rani Jhansi flyover, Shalimar Park, Priyadarshini Park, Teacher’s Park, Nimdi Colony, Vaishali Vatika Park, Piitampura etc.”

The Horticulture Department of the Corporation will plant exotic species such as Gazania, Verbena, Coreopsis, Nemesia, Petunia, Corn Flower, Alyssum, Calendula, Aster, Antirrhinum, Dahlia, Pansy, Ice plant, Salvia etc.
