SECI signs MoU with MoHA to set up rooftop solar plants

NEW DELHI: The Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to set up rooftop solar energy plants at the campuses of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and National Security Guard (NSG).

The central government under the National Solar Mission has targeted the production of 100 GW of power through solar energy by the end of 2022, out of which 40 GW is to come from the rooftop solar plants. Move to set up rooftop solar plants on the campuses of CAPF and NSG is in line with India’s solar energy targets. These rooftop plants will be set up under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. It will finance, install, develop, own and operate these rooftop solar plants. Electricity is provided to the customers, on whose property the plant is installed, from these rooftop plants and the surplus electricity is injected into the grid through net metering system.

The SECI is a central public service undertaking under the ambit of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.
