MUMBAI: Aditya Thackeray, Minister for Environment, Government of Maharashtra announced that everyone in Mumbai would be able to access drinking water, from May 1, 2022. Those living in slums or those without an Occupation Certificate (OC) will also be able to access drinking water now. Thackeray clarified that this will not change the legal status of a house, but the residents can access formal sources of drinking water. He also added that illegal connections which pollute water supply, will be done away with.
‘Water for all’ policy had been discussed at a special meeting at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also attended by Aditya Thackeray. The civic body is up for elections later this year.
