GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) announced on Monday, January 24, that they have decided to adopt a long-term environmental strategy. The strategy, according to officials, will be ready by June of this year. This strategy focuses on meeting the needs of the metropolitan population until 2041. The proposal will be worked on by an agency that will be appointed soon.
“The sustainable environment plan will focus on interventions that must be undertaken on a micro level throughout the entire metropolitan area to bring all components of the environment such as greenery, pollution reduction, and water conservation, together,” said Sudhir Rajpal, Chief Executive Officer, GMDA. It will be a comprehensive plan for the entire city that is citizen-centred and based on input from local citizens.”
“The plan for sustainable management of the urban environment would include provision for urban forestry, tree plantation and horticulture, as well as, measures for solid waste management and water conservation,” according to the GMDA Act 2017. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board collaborated on a district-level environmental management plan for Gurugram in December 2019. According to officials, this plan does not have specifics for an urban population and is a district-wide strategy.
