BHUBANESWAR: With urban elections expected next year, the Government of Odisha instructed all civic bodies on Tuesday, December 21, to complete the ongoing retrofit and greenfield street light project in towns and cities, which costs roughly Rs 590 crore and was started in early 2020.
The directive was given during a session hosted by the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD), Government of Odisha, at Lok Seva Bhawan on the LED Public Street Lighting Project in 114 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). G Mathivathanan, Principal Secretary, HUDD, stressed for good coordination between the ULBs and the implementing agencies to ensure that the state-wide retrofitting and greenfield project’s goal is met.
Officials stated that agreements were also signed with 113 ULBs and Project SPVs for phase-II of the Greenfield LED Public Street Project, which will encompass 270 km of new stretches with 14,805 LED lights and cost Rs 56.48 crore to implement. By March 2022, the project should be completed.
