NEW DELHI: North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) discussed the possibilities to have roads built out from the waste material. For this purpose, NDMC has pitched its biggest landfill site in Bhalswa, which comprises of around 55 lakh metric tons of waste.
The NDMC stated that their aim is to clear the landfill site as soon as possible and for this, they have referred with NHAI. The civic body wants NHAI to pick waste material from the Bhalswa landfill site and incorporate it in road construction. This will ensure a reduction in the quantity of waste by around 15,000 metric tonnes on a daily basis. The plan has reached its final stage and from the results of soil testing they have found the materials to be satisfactory for construction purposes, a NDMC official added. Moreover, the first such kind of survey was conducted by East Delhi Municipal Corporation to tackle the huge bulk of waste at the Ghazipur landfill site.
