NEW DELHI: A new mutation in the Delta variant (AY.4.2) of the novel coronavirus has been reported in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Seven cases of this variant have been identified in Indore, according to a genome sequencing report by National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC). It has been reported in 1 per cent samples in Maharashtra.
Delta AY.4.2 mutation has been classified as ‘Variant Under Investigation’ by the UK (United Kingdom) Health Security Agency (UKHSA) on October 20 because of its high growth rate. In recent months, this sub-variant has become increasingly common in UK as compared to Delta.
Dr Jenny Harries, Chief Executive, UKHSA, advised the people to take precautions and wear a masks in crowded spaces and open windows and doors to ventilate the room. She added that people should take PCR test in case of any symptoms and should isolate themselves until negative result.
