Himachal urges Amit Shah to push farmer’s societies

SHIMLA: Calling on Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs, Government of India, Urban Development Minister of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, September 21, said that the state is in the process of formulating a policy for the promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).

Suresh Bhardwaj said that the state has set a target of registering over 100 FPOs in the next year. The decision is being made to promote better livelihood for at least 10,000 farmers from the area. 

The Minister explained that the Government of Himachal Pradesh hopes to digitalize cooperative societies with the help of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Moreover, the authorities have approved Rs 5 crore to provide financial assistance to farmer’s societies for the aforementioned target of computerization.

He also said that by furthering the Centre-state partnership scheme in the ratio of 80:20, all of the societies could be covered.
